Kate McAteer

Kate McAteer is an up and coming textile designer debuting her “New Motion” collection as part of Belfast School of Art’s annual end of year show. The digitally print collection was inspired by her interest in yoga, movement and nature. Exaggerating the varied use of scale and contrasting materials, Kate’s collection has been designed for interiors and would suit any modern space.

Kate’s inspiration came from her yoga practice. She observed the slow motion of the body as it flowed from one pose into another, capturing the movement through expressive drawing

to envisage negative space. Her digital designs are layered and manipulated to give the work an essence of strength and transparency.

At present, Kate is set to display her work at the Ulster University Degree Show, which is taking place Friday 2nd June from 6pm. Her “New Motion” collection will be displayed alongside her fellow students. The show is sure to be a treat with the various disciplines that are lined up to be exhibited.
